Just drove through knee deep rain waters, in a torrential downpour. I’ve never been so _wet_, ever! My eyes are red because of the rain hitting me on the face. Must have been a cloud burst, the roads in Pune flood in minutes!….Atlest my bike got the wash it so deserved, and Real Steal is a good movie, go for it, but make sure you’re not in Pune and it doesn’t fucking rain!

Brain sends signals to your muscles to move the mouse on link and click on Mouse, your eyes help in that movement and tell brain to click at right place.
Mouse sends interrupt via USB or PS2 to Host Controller.
Host controller forwarded the interrupt to Processor.
Processors sent interrupt to device driver.
Device driver gave control to X server (i.e display server for Linux)
X server gave control to browser
browsers parses that link.
browser contact network card via system calls and sent the request to FB server
Routers take the packet from your network card and gave it to FB server.
FB server processes the request and sends the reply back
Browser gets the reply back and processes the HTML code to display the new contents.
X server updates the video memory buffer with new contents
Monitor reads the new content from that buffer and shows new content at screen, at 60HZ (say)
Eyes get the same signal at 16HZ and send it to brain
Brain processes the information and validates the information, if its the right one.

Hello everybody out there using minix - I’m doing a (free) operating system (just a hobby, won’t be big and professional like gnu) for 386(486) AT clones. This has been brewing since april, and is starting to get ready. I’d like any feedback on things people like/dislike in minix, as my OS resembles it somewhat (same physical layout of the file-system (due to practical reasons) among other things).

I’ve currently ported bash(1.08) and gcc(1.40), and things seem to work. This implies that I’ll get something practical within a few months, and I’d like to know what features most people would want. Any suggestions are welcome, but I won’t promise I’ll implement them :-)

PS. Yes - it’s free of any minix code, and it has a multi-threaded fs. It is NOT protable (uses 386 task switching etc), and it probably never will support anything other than AT-harddisks, as that’s all I have :-(.

The Power of the Sleep Cycle:

Studies show that the length of sleep is not what causes us to be refreshed upon waking. The key factor is the number of complete sleep cycles we enjoy. Each sleep cycle contains five distinct phases, which exhibit different brain- wave patterns. For our purposes, it suffices to say that one sleep cycle lasts an average of 90 minutes: 65 minutes of normal, or non-REM (rapid eye movement), sleep; 20 minutes of REM sleep (in which we dream); and a final 5 minutes of non-REM sleep. The REM sleep phases are shorter during earlier cycles (less than 20 minutes) and longer during later ones (more than 20 minutes). If we were to sleep completely naturally, with no alarm clocks or other sleep disturbances, we would wake up, on the average, after a multiple of 90 minutes–for example, after 4 1/2 hours, 6 hours, 7 1/2 hours, or 9 hours, but not after 7 or 8 hours, which are not multiples of 90 minutes. In the period between cycles we are not actually sleeping: it is a sort of twilight zone from which, if we are not disturbed (by light, cold, a full bladder, noise), we move into another 90-minute cycle. A person who sleeps only four cycles (6 hours) will feel more rested than someone who has slept for 8 to 10 hours but who has not been allowed to complete any one cycle because of being awakened before it was completed…. “
